Responsibilities

PeopleTec is currently seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to support our Huntsville, AL and/or Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD location.

 

The Senior Cloud Engineer will play a pivotal role in designing, deploying, and managing cloud infrastructure within the US Army DOD customer Digital Engineering Environment. With a deep understanding of cloud technologies, the Senior Cloud Engineer will ensure the scalability, security, and efficiency of cloud-based systems supporting US Army DOD customers.

 

Duties Include:

  • Cloud Architecture & Design: Lead the design and implementation of robust, scalable, and secure cloud architectures that meet the mission-critical needs of the US Army DOD customer Digital Engineering Environment.
  • Cloud Deployment & Management: Oversee the deployment, configuration, and management of cloud services, ensuring optimal performance, cost-efficiency, and adherence to best practices.
  • Automation & Orchestration: Develop and implement automation scripts, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and orchestration tools to streamline cloud operations and reduce manual intervention.
  • Security & Compliance: Ensure all cloud infrastructure complies with DoD security requirements, including implementing robust access controls, encryption, and monitoring solutions.
  • Performance Optimization: Continuously monitor and optimize cloud resources, identifying opportunities to enhance performance, reduce costs, and improve resilience.
  • Collaboration & Support: Work closely with systems engineers, data engineers, and cybersecurity teams to ensure seamless integration of cloud solutions within the broader digital engineering environment.
  • Disaster Recovery & Continuity Planning: Design and implement disaster recovery strategies and business continuity plans to ensure the availability and integrity of critical systems in the cloud.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Create and maintain detailed documentation of cloud architectures, configurations, and procedures to support ongoing operations and audits.
  • Technology Evaluation: Stay informed about emerging cloud technologies and tools, evaluating and recommending new solutions that align with customer objectives.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Experience:

  • 6-10 years of experience in IT, with a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience working in Azure or AWS cloud environments, with a proven track record of designing and managing cloud solutions
  • Advanced cloud service/vendor certification from Azure (e.g., Azure Administrator Associate, AWS Solutions Architect Associate, AWS SysOps Administrator Associate).
  • Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems, including advanced configurations and optimizations.
  • Experience with implementing enterprise authentication and Role-Based Access, particularly in complex, multi-platform environments.
  • Strong skills related to working with docker and Kubernetes to deploy cloud native applications through complex SDLC processes and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Entra ID and Microsoft Active Directory Domain Services
  • Proficient in using Terraform to implement complex Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions.
  • Competent working with multiple types of CI/CD architectures/tools (e.g. GitLab, Ansible, Jenkins, Azure DevOps)
  • Experience using Ansible for server and workstation configuration management in large-scale environments.
  • Strong networking background with in-depth knowledge of IP subnetting, network security groups, routing, Palo Alto firewall configurations, load balancing, DNS, etc.
  • Travel: Less than 15 %
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • An active DoD Secret clearance is required to perform this work. Candidates are required to have an active Secret clearance upon hire, and the ability to maintain this level of clearance during their employment.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

Desired Skills:

  • Extensive experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, with certifications preferred (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert).
  • Proven track record in designing and deploying large-scale, mission-critical cloud environments, preferably within the DoD or a similar highly regulated environment.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools such as CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and automation frameworks.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-focused environment.
